DATA HANDLING
Handling of data can be done in so many mathematical ways, for one to understand the information that is being recorded. Data handling refers to the process of managing and manipulating data to ensure its accurate, secure, and accessible for analysis.
Before data has to be recorded, one has to go through the processes of data collection, data processing, data analysis etc., then only can data be recorded, shared or visualization.
Data/information can be recorded in various ways, here are a few ways data can be visualized in mathematics.
- Bar graphs/chart
- Line graphs
- Tally charts
- Pie charts
The Bar chart/graph
This chart helps to compare discrete categories or groups of data that has been collected by the researchers. It also helps to show the frequency distribution, categorical comparisons.
Example: A bar chart can be used to represent the number of students achieving different grade ranges.
Line Graph
Line graphs can be used in various was regarding the mathematical context. A line graph can be used in algebra when graphing linear equations to visually represent the type of linear equations of the form. It can also be used to plot inequalities, graphic functions etc.
A tally chart is a simple and efficient way to record and count frequencies of data. It is often used in the early stages of data collection to organize raw data into categories, making it easier to interpret. Each occurrence of an item or event is recorded as a tally mark.
The main purpose of a pie chart is to show proportions of a whole. It is often used to display the percentage breakdown of categories.
